SW Saskatchewan | Right, the coyotes will run the deer with one trading off for another, especially when the pups are being trained.
Winter of 2010-11 was a coyotes paradise, the snows were so heavy that they could run on top of it but the deer would fall through and couldn't run, and the deer would bunch up in groups where they would try to scrounge whatever food was available, and mainly ended up in feed yards to scrounge cattle feed.
The coyotes were taking at least a deer a day from "our" group but the deer numbers kept getting boosted by stragglers wandering in. Some deer would group on roads that had bare spots, but when the snowplow went through they got plowed int the ditch along with snow.
Grizzly site when the snow melted in the spring!
This past year deer were a rare sight, but the deer in Canada are big- at least twice the size of Texas deer and 25% bigger than Ohio deer. Especially the mulies.
PS-when you get into heavily settled country, dogs and cats make easier hunting.
