southwest wisconsin | Years ago when i was an old JD mechanic- wow where'd the time go- anyway. Most 4840's that we sold new dyno'd about 200-210 hp. Question'd the dyno's calibration, we sent the M&W compu-torq in for calibration, re dyno'd that 4840, and it still read 210. I personally wouldnt run one over 225, should really have someone sent your hp with a dyno. Pto clutch can take it, just start with no load on it. Head gasket might start leaking, and as someone said- replace the crank dampener after 5000 hours. And most 4640 where running over 180 hp as well. Both tractors were good workhorses, just wish they came with 15 speed powershift. In todays market, they're alot of tractor for the money, hope this helps. | |
