Amherst WI | I have used barley several times to fatten my cattle. I grow barley instead of oats as a nurse crop for my alfalfa. Around here oats almost always suck (as far as yield and test weight) and then you get docked big time when you sell those light oats to the feed mill. It works pretty good and I can replace corn with it and sell the corn.
Would I grow just barley? I doubt it, but I wouldn't grow any spring grain alone either, corn is by far more profitable. | |
