I guess one question I have is more what caliber does everyone like??? 22 is a small light weight gun to carry. Cheep to feed and fun to play with. Unless you are in a place that you are trying to stop some stoner. If this is the case move or get a 10 gauge shot gun with a one point sling with slugs:)

.22 is a great range and plinking caliber, but not great for protection. Most like .380 and 9mm because it makes the firearm smaller and lighter, while still having some knock-down power. Some carry .40 and .45, which is easier if you're just carrying under a jacket or in a vehicle. Of course, some carry .38 or .357 in a revolver, which works as well.

My favorite is 9mm because it's a common caliber for me. I'm a bigger guy, so ankle carrying a single stack 9mm is not an issue.
