Mid Michigan
Do you plant the entire 30 acres or just 25? We have a lot of wet spots on some fields and probably harvest them 90% of the time. Wet spots don't always mean totally dead spots. As far as seeing the bids I think I would just trust the guy and pay him or walk away either this year or next. Pay it this year to get the use of the fertilizer you put down or walk away with nothing. He don't owe you anything for fertilizer you put down in anticipation of farming his land on a year to year lease. I would never put fertilizer down on any land I don't own until it was getting planted. In fact I never put it down ahead of time on our own land. We wait until we plant it. He might offer to pay for the fertilizer but I don't think he legally has to. Would be nice of him though. I would pay for the fertilizer if I was changing renters and it was put down already. That way everybody walks away feeling ok on the deal.
