Statesville, NC
Not 100% sure, but I think the first factory power steering was the John Deere models 50 and 60 in the fall of '52. A little story to go along with that; My dad was about 23 at the time, and went with the JD dealer and his salesman to the "unveiling" of the new models 50 and 60. The dealer had a small plane and they flew to Georgia to for the show. On the way back the plane started sputtering and missing. The dealer (pilot) was working with the choke, heat, etc. to try to keep it going. Eventually it quit running. Luckily they were not too far from Charlotte and they barely made it. The controllers held up passenger planes so they could land, and they landed with no power. The dealer said we'll get this thing fixed soon, and be on our way to Statesville. Dad said no thanks, and caught the bus.
