| Originally when we started, we were looking for a more robust, longer lived, and fertile cow. In that regard I'd see we've made a lot of progress via hybrid vigor and the inherent fertility advantage of non-Holstein breeds to accomplish those goals. What I've been surprised by is the production. Holsteins will have more volume but I'm seeing the crossbreds being better than or almost equal to Holsteins in production when components are considered.
My current oldest crossbreds are approaching the 200,000 lb lifetime barrier and when you consider components it's almost like they are over 250,000 lbs. already. | |
