IMO, the WORST thing to do is to build a barn right off the bat, while you are still learning the tricks of the trade. Feeding cattle is as much an art as a science. First batch of calves I had on my own, I thought what the hell did I just buy? Dad guided me thru all the stuff he did that I never saw behind the scenes (I was 14 at the time) and sold them to the packing plant 10 months later. Start small, and pay attention to detail and you will do just fine. | |
