Ten acres for hay, or other crops could be a real pain. Then if it is an odd shaped piece of ground it is a bigger pain.
You can look at haying cost any way you wish, but in reality it cost so much an Hour for each operation. Our University Ag Economist have never figured that out. They rather come up with a cost per acre, cost per bale, or cost per ton for equipment operation.
I have baled odd shaped small plots as a favor but I still charge by the hour. One patch took 3 hours to mow, another three hours to rake, No tedding at all, took forty minutes to bale. It took longer to drive the tractor to the "farm"!
(I charge my cost per hour of operation, but only going one way.)
Charging my cost of operation the cost per 55 lb small bale was in the $2.75 range. They were expecting the going $1.25/bale cost.

That plus alfalfa is usually sprayed for pest control, so the owner still will not be happy.

If there is still a fence around the patch it would be better seeded to a sod and grazed.
