I have one.  Brand is "National".  It is a stereo microscope.  I decided that I wanted a stereo microscope - one with 2 eyepieces.  I bought it so that I could look at plants and insects in more detail than my naked eye could see.  More of a casual user, you might say.

If you haven't found this website yet, you might want to check out Microscope World, just to see what is out there.  This is not a recommendation to buy there or anything, just a website I found.  I'm not even sure if I bought mine there or from some other website.  I do know that I researched on the web, and bought mine on-line.

P.S.  I would check out any company that is in the optics business - telescopes and binoculars, etc. - to see if they manufacture and sell microscopes.  I would think there would be some crossover in technology there.
