Subject: Re: Width of headlands

SE Michigan
80 or 100 with an 8x30 planter for corn, but have a couple fields that end by a woods that has some wet area so we 160 to 200 on those fields. For beans with a 30 ft head and drilled beans we cut either 3 or 4 passes. This give us plenty of room on the ends.

We have found with row shutoff on the corn planter that the head land rows out away from the end of field yield same as regular rows next to them so more head lands give more form for turn around.

I custom combine for a fellow with around 30 acres half beans and half corn and he does not plant as wide of head lands as we do and it is more difficult to turn around on his field.
