Subject: A few comments on bright glass with reach

Agent Orange: Friendly fire that keeps on burning.

A 600MM f/2.8 lens for a full frame DSLR is going to set a guy back $20,000 + and be so cumbersome that you'd need to hire a sherpa to pack it around with you. Consequently, even if a guy had one, it would seldom be on the camera when you wanted it. So the guys at Panasonic have managed to come up with a small sensor that has decent quality and the small sensor makes a 25-600 f/2.8 lens doable in a walk around camera. A nice bright lens, that's also usable on the camera in its movie mode makes low-light and nightime movie making possible too.
We were in Havre a few weeks ago and the room overlooked the railyards so I switched the camera to the 'through glass' mode and took a shot at full wide angle and then another at full zoom. THese are pictures that have been shrunk in size, but if you click on the small pic, you can see the full size and the kind of detail that's possible.
First is the wide angle:

Can you see where they got the 5 gal. pail in the small shed? What kind of shovel is leaning on the back wall?
Now the full zoom version: Again, click the image to view the out of camera version.
