we plant oats @ 400 lbs/acre or buckwheat @ 150 lbs /acre, probably in the next 2 weeks, to grow as a cover crop, add green manure, and most of all starve out rhizome grasses, thistles and the like. we will let it grow as much as possible, the buckwheat till we see the first flower, chisell it to knock it down, plow it and plant winter rye or winter wheat. fantastic soil conditioner and noticeably - the earthworm population increases.
