You are exactly correct. It is a phosphorus deficiency due to the cool, wet conditions you just described. As it warms up and the plant develops a better root system (right now the above ground plant is outgrowing the roots) it should out grow it. Some hybrids seem to be more susceptible than others. Pioneer varieties in particular show this as a young plant.
