What is the head? Gerringhoff North * ? It's a CornStar

What does/did a better job of sizing the stalks? The Calmer rolls or the Hoff followed by the Besler?A 12r Calmerized head would......I think.....but I sure like the folding part of the Geringhoff

If you were going to follow with more tillage anyway, is there any advantage to going with the rolling chopper vs a good disk?
No, other the the chopper is cheaper and faster.+ I don't worry about ridging.

The fields around here that were disked immediately following combining corn in Sept won't have much residue left by planting time.
