Exactly how the fencing and animal damage laws work vary by state. As such, I'd recommend speaking to an attorney about it. Don't need to necessarily hire him but it might not be a bad idea.

You should be due damages, of course what's right and what happens aren't necessarily the same.

As things sit, I'm not sure why anyone would want to rent from him but someone will.

Now if it's you, you know how it works now so I'd say you need to put up a decent electric fence around the field to protect it.

If he lets tth wire down and the cattle get in, I'd rope the calves and put a brand that isn't his on them. Shouldn't be your brand either, don't want to get accused of theft you know.
