| Those sure sound like honey locust to me. I had several colonies of them in one pasture. This may sound dumb, but the best way to get rid of them is to PULL them out (like weeds in a garden). I'm not kidding, their root system is so shallow (one or two inches) they come right out. Grab on to one little tree with both hands and start pulling and you'll pull the root through the sod all the way to the next little tree. Throw them on a pile and they won't regrow. Right after the frost comes out, they're easy picking. I sure wish the multiflora rose and thistles were anywhere near that easy to wipe out.
