Subject: RE: Cow/Calf herd feeding

Culbertson, MT
"here", I have just started feeding. Roll out rounds with the tractor. As soon as I get done digging postholes, I will start using the Hiline bale processor. I can't recommend a bale processor highly enough- this machine paid for itself in 1 winter! The difference in waste that you will see is amazing. But I digress...

If you have the room, roll the bales out with the loader or a bale bed on pickup. This will cut down a little on waste, but keep the manure pack from getting so bad (like around rings). The tubs are effective and convenient, but expensive. If you have alfalfa to include in ration, you can get by feeding some every 3 days or so. Cows will get by fine this way, especially before 3rd trimester.

The main thing to me is to get them eating what I want, in the volume I want. They do work for me...!
