I think the spacing issue with a JD no-till drill is more because of the low rate of seed and the long tube to bounce down from the drill box to the ground. All the guys around here that plant milo have the half-speed kit. I've been tempted to try it with ours but we don't have the half-speed. Ours plants wheat and soybeans right on to what the chart said and according to the chart, if you plug every other hole you could get low enough population on the regular speed. I have always wondered if the milo might be more even having the regular speed with the gates squeezed down tight vs. the half-speed with the gates opened a little wider. Haven't had the nerve to try. I think milo, at least around here, gets planted thicker than it needs to be.
