PA regulations are pushing for minimum 35 foot permanent vegetation buffers.  These are setbacks for manure spreading and erosion control regs.  As Martin points out some herbicides have required setbacks as well.  Although it is your land and you can argue that you should be able and free to farm every inch of it, I think providing at least some buffer is good PR with the general public.
