Northern Illinois | I assumed that the sister now owns 1000 acres and the brother owns 1000 acres. My assumption is based on what the auther wrote in his OP. "The sister wants to keep her half of the ground.". I can also understand how one can interput that to mean the sister inherited half of her fathers land and the brother owned some land before inheriting half of his fathers land.
As you said there are many details we don't know (and we really don't need to know others private matters) so we are really just speculating and playing lawyer here. I just struck me from the OP that the brother was trying to take advantage of his sister. I could be entirely wrong on that but that was just the tone I read the OP with. We don't know the details but it is possible that the parents owned 2000 acres which was in a corporation and when the mother died her half of the land went to the son and the fathers estate goes to the sister which would make them equal partners. But as you said details we will never know. | |
