| Years ago, we had one massive cottonwood tree on our farm that was right next to the town road ditch and the town board wanted it gone because they were worried it was going to fall because the ditch was starting to undermine the roots. A local logger came and cut it down and filled his whole truck with logs from it. A while later he showed up with a sales slip and said with a laugh "So, how do you want to split this?". Check was for about $40. I asked how much I owed him for hauling it away, but he didn't want anything. I sure hope the town board paid him by the hour. | |
