Holly Island, AR | Owen, the general concensus around here is there's definetly going to be a reduction in cotton acres, but not as drastic as some are saying on this post. I've heard anywhere from 20 to 50 percent mostly. There's acres tied up to gins, including some of my own ground that will be cotton. Yeilds have been good here on irrigated ground for several years now, while corn has kinda flip flopped from year to year, so some guys will stick with some cotton for consistency, and on ground that can beat 3 bale more years than not. As far as my farm, I'm looking at maybe 50/50 corn/beans, and cotton. This year I was about 80 percent cotton, but only because I did have a good percentage of mine booked early, otherwise I'd had more corn this year. Things may change as the winter progresses, I've been ordering corn seed recently, and some of the varietes are already tight, or may not be able to get them. | |
