Cotton acres will be down. An average crop of cotton in 2013 [800 lbs x .70 cents] would gross $560. Wheat/SB [50 bu wheat @ $8.00 + 30 bu sb @ $12] gross $760 . Tech fees for cotton, fighting resistant pigweed, and overall management make cotton a tough sell. Much wheat going in the ground around here. ps I feel sorry for those guys with the baler pickers [like me]. As far as how many acres are already "locked out" of cotton or peanuts, It's hard to say at this time as we have about another month of wheat planting time ahead of us. Good wheat varieties are sold out. Combine run wheat going out in many fields. But, much wheat is being planted and conditions are pretty good for getting it sowed.
