SW KS, near Dodge City | Yeah everybody's bullish when we're coming off of about 4 years of record farm income. Don't you realize that the reason we're doing good is b/c we're the sharpest operator around, and all that other bad stuff that can happen to all those other dumb operators can't happen to me b/c I'm special and different and that much smarter than everybody else? That's exactly what set up the 80s crash too. BIG income in farming for the latter part of the 70s, everybody had money to make a downpayment, things are GOOD. Then they're not. Woops. And 6-7 corn won't be the norm. And if it is, variable inputs (seed, fert, chem) will rise to take a big bite out of the margin. One of the things that IS different this time is that the main input suppliers are run by large corps who are in it for profit, not an inept cooperative structure like Farmland. | |
