w/c Illinois | Oxygen tank valve is a back-seating valve and seals on full open and full close to prevent leaks at high pressure. Shielding gas may be the same type of valve. Once had an acetylene tank valve that leaked at the stem and caught fire from sparks. I was able to blow it out. To remind me to turn off the shielding gas on my MIG, when I take off my ball cap to put my welding helmet on I hang it on the tank valve. When I'm finished, I grab my cap and turn off the gas. Once leaked out a good portion of a tank when I forgot to shut the gas off. | |
