Odds of an infection with a new nail are pretty slim.

I respectfully disagree. Those nails even have a light glue coating on them and I would think an infection would be a real concern. I would say the chances of the nail gun being super clean are pretty slim too from the ones I've seen. Sounds like a good way to lose a finger to me if it does get infected. I probably wouldn't go to the doctor but I'd be pretty watchful for the first sign of an infection and I'd be to the doctor pdq if I saw ANY signs of one. The outside wound can even heal and it still get infected around the bone. Nothing to take too lightly in my opinion. Most times they turn out fine but you don't want to be the exception.
