I have a rotary dimmer switch on the ceiling fan and light in my son's room. Been that way for about 6 years. Haven't had any issues with the fan or the light. I've only used 40W bulbs in all our indoor fixtures. Seems to be plenty of light, so I've never seen the need to go to a larger wattage bulb.
