The article above on the future of the feedlots is very interesting. Thanks for posting it, Russ. One of the ideas is that current feeding was based on cheap corn. The other was that current feeding was also based on cheap plentiful calves. Both of those basics are changing, according to the article. As calves become more scarce, I wonder if one of the side effects will be a decrease in the dockage for non-black hided calves. If there is a shortage of calves in the future, will feeders be happy to get and willing to pay a similar price for a GOOD QUALITY beef calf even if the hide is not black? Jim |
