| I would say it is the exact opposite of fellnrite, here. Up untill the last three years, you could buy all the grass hay you wanted for $30/ton. Everybody that made their own hay had a surplus every year. If you sold hay, you would practically had to look up people to buy it, and people also used to fill up ditches with the poor hay.
I know several people that buy all their hay. Some own or rent hayfields and have a neighbor make it.
I guess it boils down to the amount of hay you are going to make every year, and if it pays to buy the machinery for it.
The last couple years I have been trying to make as much hay as possible. The added bonus is you will have a good idea of the quality because you made it. I have bought some hay, and one guy makes good hay, but some of the other hay was rotten and a rip-off. | |
