Sac & Story county IA | This is 3rd handed, I am not near that old. ;) At the northeast corner of Iowa, it was normal to have someone with a boat take hunters to islands in the Mississippi to shoot ducks for the day and come back near dark and get the hunters. That day was warm and sunny, lots of hunters out to little islands. Towards the end of the day, the storm came in with a vengeance. The hunters couldn't be rescued. Several died of exposure. I can't find any wikipedia reading about this, though. I guess the chamber of commerce in that area doesn't advertise this | |
