NW Central Ohio
Those are chrome rings on International 400 series engines. They are notoriously hard to break in. The last one I did for my dad, I told him we were going to pull it outside the shop, and it wasn't to be started till the day he wanted to start chisel plowing. He listened for once, and when I could get it into the field...I used the next higher gear than we usually pulled it with and really worked them over for a while. It sealed up very well. The Bon Ami trick isn't an old wives tail...I've seen $100,000 race car engines getting it poured into the intake.
