I think you'd have to fall on your head to replace a 5488 with a 4440............Does your 54 have the HD axle? I'd be interested in it if your considering selling. If you want my opinion on it, anything older than a 7/8000 Series JD is not worth owning.............Cabs Stink, Hydraulic flow controls are at the couplers and not in the cab, need a stupid clip to lock a hydraulic Lever on, no room in them to put monitors and not make it look half ***, non-cross flow head fuel hog of an engine............And I could keep going.


Come on TP, why don't you tell us how you really feel, lol.

It has always been my opinion that of the tractors of that era, Case, IH, Jd, the 40 series Deere were the best. Now I can't comment on the newer ones, don't have any experience. But compare a 4440 to other brands in that same year range and the resale on the Deere is a lot better. If they are as bad as TP states, I don't think that resale value would be like it is.

4640 only has the 1000 rpm shaft.
