NW Washington | My two cents worth.
Shoe capacity is not usually the limiting factor for combine capacity. For walker machines walker loss is usually what limits their capacity. For rotary machines power is usually their limiting factor along with rotor losses in some cases.
For most brands of rotary combines the difference between the "large" machine and the "small" machine is horsepower and maybe grain tank size. Gleaner claims some shoe capacity improvement/advantage by use of their "accelerating rolls" and an initial air blast to separate a lot of chaff before the grain and chaff gets to the chaffer. New cleaning fan designs (tangential flow) used by most combines that replace the old paddle bladed fans also gives a much more uniform air flow over the shoe too that also helps in the shoe clean better. | |
