south central IOWA | So we could probably argue about this until we're blue in the face..... It could happen but I have never heard of people weighing their calves pre weaning and then again at weaning just to see if creep works or not.
But what I would agree with and maybe how your nutritionist got his numbers is people wean 2 sets of calves, one group had creep and the other didn't, they weigh them and then figure their WDA. I would believe there is .5-.75lbs difference in those two groups.
Lets see if we can follow my numbers....... Group A didn't get any creep and Group B did. Group C did real good on creep.
At 205 days group A weans at 2.5lbs WDA. That's 512.50lbs.
At 205 days group B weans at 3.0lbs WDA. That's 615lbs.
At 205 days group C weans at 3.25lbs WDA that's 666.25lbs.
So now let's say you creep feed for 60 days.
Group B gains 102.5lbs more than group A. That's 1.71lbs/day extra and above group A because of creep feed for those 60 days.
Group C gains 153.75lbs more than group A. That's 2.56lbs/day extra and above group A because of creep feed for those 60 days.
So to conclude my argument.... group B makes $2.39/day while spending $1.20 and group C makes $3.58/day
In my book, those are all very believable numbers.
