My wife looked up where we stayed a few years ago. The Aston Waikiki Beach hotel is walking distance to a lot of the action and across the street from the beach (easy beach access). I would have no problem staying there again.
Lots to see in that state. Try to take in more than just Honolulu but don't schedule yourself too thin.
