Subject: concrete questing for livestock guys

frederick, MD

Adding on to our trench silo apron, a lot of water runs through this area and its a mud hole, I am sick of it.  We are tieing into the exsisting apron with rebar every 2 feet.  The exsisting edge is in great shape because dad poured just the edge 10 inches deep with rebar in it.

My concern is that at the joint silage juice will seep through the crack and rust out the rebar, allowing the slabs to seperate.  This area gets lots of traffic, thousands of loads of silage and manure.  Guy thats helping me do the job recommends using a bentonite water stop joint there.  This stuff is expensive.  Is it worth it????  Or is there something else?? Or dont worry about it?
