Flip side, sometimes seeing the machine on the home turf helps to sell it. I remember one case where I took someone to the farm and it was very obvious the farmer was fussy. Despite being offered the chance to drive the tractor around the yard, the customer bought the tractor without even hearing it run, just because of the surroundings.

Seeing that more and more here. Not necessarily without hearing it run, but most of the stuff we trade in is sold before it even leaves our farm............but............dealers here know that if it's something like a Combine and it's summer time, the used machine doesn't leave until the new
(er
) one arrives. Same goes for a tractor, planter, drill, etc. in the wintertime. If it's a long ways out, they can have it, but, if it's only a few months away from it's useful season, it stays. Guys have had good crops here the last few years so there is a BIG demand for late model used equipment. Being fussy can have big advantages. As said above, many times equipment is sold when the potential buyer pulls into the yard and sees the cleaning/maitenence, etc. going on.......and/or knows your reputation.
