Thanks for some great comments about twin rows. From most of the unbiased testing I have seen the yield difference is not as large as Great Plains suggests. I had not considered some of the factors you mention. Just as a note, based on a planter and operator malfunction in 2011, I dropped my seeding rate about 5-10%in 2012, in this drought year, it was the correct thing to do, in 2011 it did not hurt yield but dramatically improved stand-ability. I sell seed and think perhaps the couple extra bushels you might gain by high pops come at a cost that only improves the seed companies bottom line(mine too of course).
