Therein lies the problem with soy hull pellets - the price. They have about doubled in price since this summer. I could have gotten SBHP's at ADM Des Moines in June for $75/ton FOB. Now it's like $135/ton.

Basically SBH's will give you some roughage and low-medium protein, not much energy. With poorer quality hay you'll need to add some energy, such as corn.

I would suggest trying some DDGS. Mix 50/50 corn and DDGS for your poor quality hay, along with some balancer mineral, and feed around 5-7 lbs/hd/day. DDGS will probably be about the same $ as SBH's, maybe a bit more, but you're now getting 27% protein and the same energy as corn instead of 11-13% CP and 85% energy of corn.
