Alot of people on here grind hay but I dont agree with doing it. I think the cow does not utilize the hay as it goes through them too quickly to be broken down. If it was me, and this is just my opinion and may not be worth a damn, I would start out with the poorer hay and feed them soy pellets along with it to help them and make them clean it up. Then start in with the better hay later as they need it more after you have fed the other hay up. The pellets will help an old cow out alot and will make them more satisfied too. That is worth alot with cows I have found out. Kind of like dealing with kids and making them eat veggies. They will eat a little rougher hay if fed something to help them along. I was just always taught that the cow has her own grinder and is alot more efficent than grinding it for her if she will eat it and if she wont prolly not worth much anyway.
