Subject: Re: Training New Drivers

south Texas , York Rife Freemason
i spend 80% of my time at work training new mechanics (most of them are in tech school or just out) .part of what i have to teach is how to drive a truck on the yard .our yard is fairly big so i make a few rounds showing them the controlls . then i kill the truck get out and get them in the drivers seat start with just first gear for a few rounds . our trucks are ferightliner centurys with 60 series and 10 spd ,so they are easy to drive. i tell them to match the rpms to the ground speed of the gear they want to go into . (that works better than everything else i have tried ). im real paintent and dont raise my voice or make them nervious and that helps alot too ,i found out if you are calm the trainees will be too and can learn better . wish i could tell you more things to do ,but i think it is getting the "feel" of things more than anything else.
