Subject: Corn Stalk Bales?

Anybody feed much corn stalks? What are they worth for feed, or is is just roughage? I don't know anything about them but with hay as expensive as it is, myself and every other beef cow guy is looking for something cheap to feed. Can only feed so much straw.

I guess there is lots of corn this year in the Sacramento Valley, south of us and guys have been baling the stalks like crazy. Enough that the price has gone down, running around $40/ton right now. We can get them on a back haul, so with the freight is reasonable to get them here (about a 200 mile haul). They are all in 3x4x8' bales around 1200lbs, so they would be easy to handle and feed. Total cost shouldn't be over $60/ton, the cheapest hay around right now is $135.
