Not only will a deer go through electric fence, but cows will as well if they are running fast enough (like being chased by nieghbors dogs). If you have electric fence you are going to fix it. That is one reason I like barbed for perimeter fence, it is much tougher and more visible than electric or HT. Not to mention you don't have to rely on the charger being on for the fence to work.

As far as temp pasture fence, we have been using polywire. Much easier to string out, pick up and more visible than wire. Use T posts on ends and corners and to make gates, the rest is all fiberglass round posts. I wouldn't buy anymore of those however as they don't stand up to the sun here. They are real nice in that you don't need an insulator, with rebar or T posts you have to have an insulator.
