Subject: RE: ? about feeding soybean stubble

Virginia
We've feed corn stalks off and on for about 25 years depending on how much hay we had. Always fed the stalks first and then switched over to hay. We baled soybean residue ONE TIME. Took the chopper off the combine and raked severals windrows together and baled it immediately before it got rain on it. Cows refused to eat it. We ended up using it as bedding.

To me corn stalks are far superior to soybean residue for either feed or bedding. I think the key to good corn stalk feed is to bale as soon as possible after combining before they get weathered. Good luck with the bean stubble but it just didn't work for us. We have from time to time spiced the stalk bales with 50-75 lbs. of liquid feed which seems to make them eat it better. This may work on the bean stubble.
