Keeton's in particular can cause spacing problems in the right soil conditions. If you back off the pressure adjustment screw you can minimise the problem. I have seen this mainly on very loose tilled ground. A true silt/loam with almost no clay in it. On one guys farm his ground just falls apart with just a disc or field cultivator pass. This is enough to put it in condition like it had been run over with a cultimulcher. He got Keeton's on his new planter and the first time out in the field he calls up saying the planter doesn't seem to be working right. Well after taking it up on a field road and running both surface drop and no-tilling in the field road we found out the Keeton's were responsible for the very poor corn spacing. In no-till they work well. In conventional I wouldn't have them.
