Subject: RE: Ready to Change from Drilled No-Till Beans to 15 "

We've started drilling beans in 15" rows back in '96 and in '03 went to a 15" planter for beans. This year was the first year we have ever had a thin stand and that's only on about half an acre of one field in the corner where it isn't tiled. Those beans were no-tilled when it was a little muddy ahead of a long cool rainy spell and there was probably only a 50,000 stand in that corner. We had a cool wet spring and most of the beans were put in under less than ideal conditions, alot of the guys who drilled don't have the best stands and are wanting a rain pretty bad. Our 15" beans planted under the same conditions came up great and I'm not worried about them at all. Under good conditions I think a good drill is good enough for beans but when conditions get bad the planter units really shine at getting a good stand.
