Subject: RE: corn grinding on 9650 sts

Remsen, IA
Do a quick kill and check how fast the kernels are coming off the cob. I was having trouble grinding and kept running slower and wider with no luck. Ended up going tighter and faster, takes the kernels off right away so there is less damage. In wet corn I've was going 11 on the concave and about 750 speed and was very happy. It was better than the results than I could ever get from the 2388 AFX rotor. In dryer corn under 20 I've been running clearance at 22 and speed at 500. Mine is a bullet rotor with round bar concaves if that matters and different varieties do sometimes behave differently. I do think that the old IH standard rotor was easiest to set for wet corn but the others can all do and acceptable job if they get dialed in right.
