As a carrier I know that I couldn't have done a darn thing in that theater.
Dark movie, tear gas, panicked people running around, semi-auto gun firing back at me, bullet proof vest. Yeah, 12 dead from shooter and 6 more from the guy firing back.
Hard to say, there are too many variables to know either way, and it's impossible to know what that situation is like without being in it. I think a major factor would be where you were compared to where he was. Probably one of those situations where a grip laser would be the only real way to aim.
