North East Kansas
We took 4 of the straight bars out, so we only have 4 left in. It really didn't seem to change things having them out. For that matter, we really didn't notice any difference at all when we put the 4 extra bars in for corn. We only noticed a drastic improvement when we took some wires out. We are going to take every other wire out of every concave for corn next year. I am not sure if we will even put the extra separator bars back in. We did put the wires back in for soybeans. We ran for one day with our setup we had for corn before we got rained out. Since we had time, we installed the wires back in. We did notice a little plugging where the wires were removed, but not too bad. I have always thought that we should run a narrow concave to increase capacity, but I don't know exactly what dimensions equate to the number that the screen reads for the concave. I would like to try about a half inch of clearance, but what approximate number would this equate to for the concave setting?
